Joanna Lumley’s Silk Road
British actress Joanna Lumley travelled through the Balkan region for part of her TV special following the route of the ancient Silk Road. We provided support for the crew during their time in Albania, while they traced the route of the Via Egnatia Roman road.
90 Day Fiancé
US TV show 90 Day Fiancé travelled to Albania in winter 2019. We looked after cast and crew in Tirana and north Albania, providing advice on locations, on-the-ground fixing services, transport and drivers.
Eva zu Beck for Euronews
In December 2020, during the Covid crisis, we provided fixing and transport services for well-known YouTuber Eva zu Beck, who was in Albania to film several segments for Euronews. We provided location and story advice, and accompanied Eva and the Euronews crew throughout the shoot.
Nik was my fixer in summer 2018 on my first foreign photography project. Nik knows the right people to make your project a success, and is a great interpreter and driver.
Leander Varekamp
Leander Varekamp’s Sworn Virgins
Acclaimed Dutch photographer Leander Varekamp asked us to help him photograph the last suriving burneshas (sworn virgins) in Albania and Kosovo. As well as setting up the various photoshoots, we provided translation and transport services. Leander’s photos won a 2018 Portrait of Humanity prize.
Working with Nik as a fixer in Albania was very helpful and he became an indispensable member of the crew during the filming process. I had the feeling from the first moment we were a team, working together with the same goal, always motivated and hardworking. He understood perfectly the needs of the project and he was truly involved and dedicated. He wanted the film project to succeed, so he always tried to find the best contacts and get the best of everything. It was a pleasure to work with a professional like him. Roser Corella
Roser Corella’s Prisoners of Kanun
We worked with award-winning film-maker Roser Corella on the shoot of her documentary, Prisoners of Kanun. In the film Roser explored the impact of Albania’s blood feud culture, in which revenge can be taken out on any male family member. There are several families in the north of the country whose menfolk literally cannot leave their houses without running the risk of being killed. This shoot obviously required a lot of work to win the trust of the families concerned, and was one of our most rewarding projects to date.

ITV News – Sworn Virgin Report, 2018
In 2018 we provided film fixing services for ITV News reporter Penny Marshall, who was in Albania to shoot a report on our famous burneshas, or sworn virgins – women who have lived their lives as men. We provided full support and translation for Penny, taking her to hard-to-reach rural areas to interview these incredible women. You can watch her report at the ITV News YouTube channel.
About Us
Fixers.al is headed up by former national cycling champion and Olympian turned Albania film fixer, Besnik Musaj.
Besnik (known to his friends as “Nik”) grew up in Tirana’s rough-and-ready Kombinat district in the dying days of the Communist regime. He discovered a love of cycling, and by his late teens was Albania’s road cycling champion – going so far as to represent Albania at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. After retiring from the sport, he worked in Germany and then the US, before returning to Albania to help a Swiss heavy metals company explore opportunities here. He is now a highly regarded Albania film fixer, and has a proven track record in assisting international production companies realise sometimes complex filming projects.
